Tim Broyd: Innovation and the Search for Low Carbon Buildings and Infrastructure
Professor Tim Broyd, founding director of University College London’s Institute for Digital Innovation in the Built Environment, visited the John Grill Institute for Project Leadership and School of Project Management on Thursday, November 17 to give a seminar on Innovation and the Search for Low Carbon Buildings and Infrastructure.
He presented insights from research into how the construction industry should approach climate change – summarising changes that have occurred during a single career span, particularly in the development and adoption of digital ways of working.
Professor Broyd discussed the need for a consistent and long-term shift to ‘whole life thinking’ being a necessary attribute before real change can be made, and demonstrated how industry and government can closely together to meet the minimum needs of society.
He suggested that only by closely co-ordinated international efforts can the worst effects of climate change be averted.
