Expanding Capabilities for the Delivery of New Energy Technologies Workshop

On Monday 24 June and Tuesday 25 June, the John Grill Institute for Project Leadership (JGIPL) and the Sydney Net Zero Institute (NZI) at the University of Sydney collaborated with the School of Sustainability at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT – Madras), to hold a workshop to explore the building of capabilities in projects with a net-zero focus. The workshop was delivered in a hybrid format with the in-person component being held at the School of Sustainability of IIT-Madras in Chennai, India.

We had a range of incredible speakers from across our organisations and industries presenting on the current status of the new energy transition in both our countries as well as their leadership success stories in driving technological change.

These included: Dr Ashwin Mahalingham (Head of School of Sustainability, IIT-Madras), Dr Marcello Solomon (Research Associate, NZI), Dr Lara Mottee (Postdoctoral Research Associate, JGIPL), Dr Nikhil Tambe (CEO, Energy Consortium), Dr Gareth Bryant (SSPS Chair of Discipline for Political Economy, University of Sydney), Anson Sando ( Head – Energy Program, IIT-Madras Research Park), Mili Majumdar (Managing Director, Green Business Certification Institute), Chrys Chandraraj (Director Strategy, Markets & Regulation, EDF Australia), Dr Krithika Randhawa (Associate Professor, Sydney Business School), Professor Marjorie Valix (Deputy Head of School, University of Sydney School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering), and Madhavan Nampoothiri (PhD Scholar, IIT-Madras).

We were fortunate to also have heard from the Deputy Consul of Chennai, Mr David Eggleston, to provide an update on cross-border initiatives and government collaborations.

This workshop is one of two that were funded by a University of Sydney – IIT Madras Ignition Grant. We would like to thank IIT – Madras for their hospitality in hosting our researchers and look forward to reciprocating when their representatives visit Sydney for the second workshop later in the year!
