Our 10-Year Celebration and Alumni Dinner

On Wednesday 11 October, we held our 10-Year Celebration and Alumni Dinner to commemorate the anniversary of the John Grill Institute for Project Leadership.

Our Institute was founded in 2013 after the University of Sydney received a generous donation from our patron, Mr John Grill AO, to establish a body with the aim of transforming Project Leadership in Australia.

Mr Grill and his wife, Rosie, were in attendance at the event and alongside them were over 70 other guests that included Institute alumni, industry partners, and other affiliates. There were also a number of University senior executives present, such as the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Mark Scott AO, the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Annamarie Jagose, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Willy Zwaenepoel.

Opening the night was our Director, Professor Jennifer Whyte and Professor Mark Scott, who spoke about the importance of Project Leadership, and how our Institute has worked towards realising our foundational objective over the past decade. The keynote talk was delivered by seasoned project professional, Mark Betts, who shared his work on the Level Crossing Removal Project.

The highlight of the evening was the discussion held between Mr Grill and Hannah Clement, an alumna of our Executive Leadership in Major Projects program and who is currently serving as the Civic Infrastructure Group Head of Development Victoria. It was an insightful conversation as the two exchanged thoughts and ideas on how we can improve Project Leadership in the country and what the future holds for the discipline.
